Understanding politics of economic development - For policymakers, learning from one another’s experience is a valuable tool especially when it concerns economic development policies. The missing gap however is the “time” that allows political economy analysts to decompose an unobserved economic situation to better understand policy outcomes of a given political regime. For instance, during the time of Margaret Thatcher in the 80s, the following question was raised: Is austerity measure inevitable in order to pursue a welfarist economy?
